Panwali Kanta (3670m) - Triyugi Narayan (2235m) - Son Prayag (1700m) – Kedarnath (3600m) in Garhwal Himalayas - Uttaranchal
The territories of Kumaon and Garhwal together known as Uttaranchal stretch for about 300 km between Himanchal Pradesh and Nepal. It is bordered by Himanchal Pradesh in the West, Nepal in the East, the Uttar Pradesh plains in the South, while Tibet marks its northern boundary. To the Hindus, Uttaranchal is what the Holy Land is to Christians or Mecca to the Muslims. In ancient tradition as Dev Bhoomi it is the Abode of Gods. The land is the home of majestic Himalayan peaks, glaciers, rivers, passes, meadows, forest, valleys, lakes, varied flora and fauna, and of unsurpassed beauty.
This trek in the Garhwal Himalayas offers the panoramic view of the great Himalayan range on a flattish ridge awarding some of the finest views of peaks – Jaonli (6630m), Thalay Sagar (6904m) and others. This trek is on the old pilgrim route to Kedarnath.
Trijugi Narayan temple (1981 m) is the place where the marriage ceremony of Lord Shiva and Parvati is believed to have been solemnized.
Kedarnath (3600m) is situated at the top of Mandakini Valley, 233 km from Rishikesh. This shrine of Lord Shiva is splendidly positioned in a broad valley ringed by snow covered peaks. The Samadhi of Shankaracharya, who revived Hinduism during the 8th century, is situated behind the shrine. The trek is along the Mandakini river from Gauri Kund to Kedarnath. A number of peaks are visible, such as, Kedarnath (6940m), Bhartekhunta (6587m), Rock Tower (6250m) Sumeru Parvat (6350m), Mandani Parvat (6193m) ending in the great Chaukhamba massif (6954m). There is a route connecting Bhilangana valley to Kedarnath valley via Khatling Glacier (3717m) – Masartal (4400m) – Mayali Pass (5000m) – Vasuki Tal (4135m).
